BEng (Hons)

Senior Engineer

Elena Stoian graduated with a first-class degree in Building Services from the University of Brasov, Romania in 2011. Whilst at University, Elena participated successfully in a variety of awards involving submisssions which focused on the heating systems in churches and the variation of hydraulic resistance coefficient of linear internal diameter of pipes.

After gaining valuable experience in numerous engineering roles where she worked on residential and office building projects, Elena joined Skelly & Couch in 2019 and contributed to the recently completed, significant refurbishment at the Grade I-listed Theatre Royal Drury Lane, returning the principal public spaces to their former glory and introducing new specialist theatre services and electrical systems throughout.

She is presently working with Stirling Prize-winning architects Witherford Watson Mann on ‘An Almshouse for the 21st Century’, a progressive new community model providing 54 homes for the elderly in Southwark. For this project, design measures are in place to achieve targeted carbon reductions including passive cooling and solar energy systems.

Elena is also contributing to the King’s School Canterbury Precincts project where Skelly & Couch is involved in the update of the science facilities to raise them to a world-class standard, and to increase dining provision to cater for a larger school population. There are also plans to construct a new teaching block housing labs within a World Heritage Site with Grade I-listed surroundings and a rich archaeological history.
